Active year:

Field 1 This is the first year in which this set of parameters should take effect. This would normally be 1 [the first year of employment] for the first line of a leave definition.

For example, where the parameters for leave accrual are different for all subsequent years after the first the setting for the first line would be one and the setting for the second [and last] line would be 2


Accrual Method:

Field 2

Proportional:The leave will be accrued pro-rata through the Accrual Period [normally a year but it may be set to less] based on the Qualifying Hours.
Contract:The Leave Accrued is based on the Contracted Hours of Work as set at the Employee/Classification. Note that this is the only option for Counter Leave.
Incremental:Not used at present.
Last Year:The leave is accrued at the start of a new leave Year based on the Qualifying Hours worked in the Last Leave Year.

What Type Of Accrual:
 

Field 3 Note this field is active only to Accrual Type Leave and only for the set of parameters that apply to the first year of leave accrual.

This is a special field which allows you to select an accrual method that complies with the Sick Leave requirements of the NSW Nurses Award. Set this to Normal unless you require this function.

Where NSW Sick Leave is selected, for the first six months of employment leave will be accrued as follows:

For the first five months:

At the end of each month of employment leave will accrue as follows

One day of leave will accrue.

The accrued hours will be calculated from the following formula:

LHA = AA x HWKD x 4 / FTH x NW

Where

LHA:is the Leave Hours Accrued.
AA:is the Annual Accrual of Leave for a full time employee (in hours) as set at Field 2 of the second Screen
HWKD:is the hours actually worked in the month
FTH:is the number of hours that a full time person would work to accrue AA as set at field 1 on Screen 2.
NW:is the number of weeks in the pay periods included in the month.

At the end of the sixth month a final amount of leave is accrued as follows:

Five days will accrue

The accrued hours will be calculated from the following formula:

LHA = AA x HWKD x 4 x 5 / FTH x NW


Leave Usage Basis:
 

Field 4

As Worked:The Leave Hours used are the same as the employee was rostered to work. This setting is valid only where RostCare is in use and the leave is recorded in the roster. Typically this setting would be used for Sick Leave.
Avail Hrs/Day:The Qualifying Hours are derived from the Leave Hours Available divided by the number of Leave Days that are available. Typically this setting is used for Annual Leave.

Average Hours Per Day Basis:
 

Field 5

Where field 4 is set to Avail Hrs/Day the Leave Management Function will suggest the number of hours of leave to be paid based on the number of Leave Days that are to be taken. It does this by dividing the number of Leave Hours available by the number of Leave Days available to give the Leave Hours per Day. There are two possible methods that it will use, which are described below:

All Years:

The total number of unused Leave Hours for all years in which leave has accrued is divided by the total number of unused Leave Days for all years in which leave has accrued. This is the normal and recommended setting.

Selected Years:

two calculations are made:

  • The total number of unused Leave Hours for all previous years in which leave has accrued is divided by the total number of unused Leave Days for all previous years in which leave has accrued.
  • The total number of unused Leave Hours for the current leave year is divided by the total number of unused Leave Days for the current leave year.

With this second method a clear differentiation is made between Leave Hours per Day for previous years leave and current year leave.

This field is not active for Leave Definitions that have the leave Method for their Leave Type set to Deferred.


Hours To Reduce Accrued Leave:
 

Field 6 Where ADO would accrue from use of this type of Leave the Accrued Hours that are actually used will be affected by this setting.

Entered:The Accrued Hours for this type of Leave will be reduced by the full number of hours entered.
Paid:The Accrued Hours for this type of Leave will be reduced by the full number of hours entered less the number of hours accrued as ADO. Apparently this is correct for Qld Nurses annual leave.
