Restore

Database Utilities ‣ Restore

Restore allows you to restore a previously backed up database.

Warning

The restore function will overwrite the existing database, the database will not be available while the restore is in progress and has the potential to remove data - you are replacing your database with an older version.

There should be no need to routinely restore your database and it should only be done as part of a data recovery.

You can restore a live database backup into a test database, rather than your live database, if you just wish to view the old backup data.

The options on the screen are as follows:

ODBC Connection:

This selection allows you to select the database that will be replaced. The database will be stopped and it will be replaced by the backup.

Known location:

From this drop down you can select the default location from the database or from an attached drive. The backups that were previously done to these locations will be displayed in the window below, most recent first.

Select a backup to restore.

Custom location:

The backup you are trying to restore may not be located in the expected location. For example, if you are restoring a previous Live backup into a Test database, you would:

  • Select the Test database in the “ODBC Connection” drop down.
  • Select Custom location and select “Click to Locate” to find the live database backup you wished to restore over the test database.
Restore button:

Pressing the restore button will begin the restore process. The following steps are involved:

  • Backup the database to be overwritten. It is kept in case the restoration was done in error.
  • Pit stop allows you to stop the process before the old database is overwritten.
  • Restore the database by copying the backup to the correct location.
  • Restart the database so the newly restored database can be accesseed.
